It looks like your Comments interface "ate" the not-equal-sign (less than symbol followed by a greater than symbol) apparently trying to interpret it as an html tag indicator of some kind. Anyway, use my formula as shown, but put a not-equal-sign between the last A100 and the ""... the last item is supposed to read "A2:A100 not equal to the empty string".

Here is a slightly shorter formula which uses two less function calls (still needs to be array entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter to commit it)...

=INDEX(A:A,MAX(ROW(A2:A100)*(A2:A100"")))
