The BETADIST function calculates the beta distribution representing an outcome in the form of probability.

This function is in the compatibility category and has been replaced by the BETA.DIST function which was introduced in Excel 2010.

Formula in cell C7:

=BETADIST(C3,C4,C5,C6,C7)

Excel Function Syntax

BETADIST(x,alpha,beta,[A],[B])

Arguments

x Required.
alpha Required. A parameter which determines the shape of the distribution.
beta Required. A parameter which determines the shape of the distribution.
[A] Optional. Lower bound, default value 0 (zero).
[B] Optional. Upper bound, default value 1.

Comments

The BETADIST function returns

  • #VALUE! error value if any argument is non-numeric.
  • #NUM! error value if:
    • alpha <= 0
    • beta <= 0
    • x < A
    • x >B
    • A = B
